Description
Monument Valley from Hwy.163 in S.E.Utah.
The prismatic sky effect, desert afterglow, occurs when dust in the atmosphere is hit by sunlight below the horizon line. This is the same spot on the road where Forrest Gump stops running and decides to go home in the1996 film classic.
Monument Valley is also the backdrop for John Ford Westerns and B&W photographs by Ansel Adams.
Monument Valley Tribal Park is part of the Navajo Nation. Fees to visit are reasonable. The park roads are rough. SUV's or a park tour shuttles are recommended here. Late afternoon till after sunset are my favorite times of the day to visit and photograph.
